UPDATE @ 1700Hrs
The forecast turned out much as expected; mainly cloudy, some brightness, with just a few spits & spots. The maximum temperature reached a near- normal 14.7. It was still quite breezy, though a touch less so than yesterday.
THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
The next 24 hrs will see a good deal of rain in Western parts of Scotland, but very little in Pitlochry, possibly a few spits & spots. It will be mainly cloudy this evening & tonight, but temperatures may well remain in double figures.
OUTLOOK
MONDAY will see a marked east/west split, with lots of rain in the west & probably none on the East Coast. Pitlochry is likely to see a few spits & spots, but totals of rain here will be very small. Although mostly cloudy, the sun may pop out briefly, with temperatures reaching 15 degrees. TUESDAY looks to be brighter, with some sunshine, though a belt of rain may cross us during the evening or night.
1st HALF OF MAY
The days in the 1st half of May were not actually as warm as during the previous month (15.3 as against 15.7). Overnight temperatures were spot on the May long-term average, 0.6 milder than April 2011 nights.
So far, the highest temperature this month has been 19.5 on the 7th, whereas April 10th saw 21.2. May's sharpest frost to date has been -2.9. During the whole of last month, we didn't get below-1.1.
May so far has had 81% of it's normal rainfall, but we really need much more to compensate for the March & April defecit.
