LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK

FRIDAY should see an improvement, with fewer showers & these mainly confined to the morning, with some brighter spells during the afternoon. Still feeling cold in the fresh SW wind.   Temperatures overnight in low single figures (possibly a ground frost)

SATURDAY is expected to have a dry, bright morning, but a spell of mostly light rain is expected for a time p.m.  Once again, a cold night with at least a ground frost likely.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
A dry morning is expected, following an earlier frost & valley mist patches. After some bright intervals this morning, the afternoon will become generally cloudy, with a spell of 3 or 4 hour's rain within the mid-afternoon/ early evening period. Winds will be SE3 for much of the day, becoming more from the W following the rain. Best temperatures around 9 or 10. Mainly dry with clear spells tonight, but frost unlikely.

THURSDAY--Despite some dry, bright interludes, the day will be prone to some cloudy, showery, blustery spells, with temperatures held around 9 & winds up to force 4 at times.

FRIDAY--Promises better, with a few showers probable during the morning, but dry, brighter weather for the afternoon. Rather windy. The overnight period may see temperatures down into low single figures.

Now, the total has shot up to over 103mms. Nearly a ground frost with me this morning. Some very attractive high level cloud on what looks a delightful start to Tuesday.

Wednesday is likely to see a spell of rain, while Thursday looks like being more generally cloudy with rain at times throughout. Winds will be from the SW for much of the time, in a range force 3 to 5, with best temperatures around 8 or 9 degrees.

FORECASTING IS BASED ON MET OFFICE & BBC MATERIAL, WHICH IS THEN TAILORED FOR THE PITLOCHRY AREA, USING LOCAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE.   My early impressions re. the storm in Southern England is --perhaps not quite as bad as it might have been. The Met Office have usually erred on the side of pessimism since the Oct 1987 storm, when they seriously under-estimated. At least we were told many days ago that Scotland wouldn't be affected.by this one.

An odd shower getting through from the west, but by & large a dry day with broken cloud & some sunny intervals.Winds becoming W force 3 & highest temperatures up to about 11. Overnight---some clear spells, but perhaps a band of showers later.

Scotland is essentially in the clear this time, but always worth keeping an eye on. Pressure is at its lowest of the month.

Present indications are that the "storm & tempest" forecast for Monday, has England's name on it.

Mostly cloudy, with rain just reaching Pitlochry by 0800. The rain is expected to be persistent, becoming heavy at times later. Some improvement is likely by late afternoon, as rain becomes lighter & patchier. Winds will be mostly from the SE force 4, though lighter late in the day. Maximum temperatures reaching around 11 degrees. Tonight should be mainly dry.

FORECASTING IS BASED ON MET OFFICE & BBC MATERIAL, WHICH IS THEN TAILORED FOR THE PITLOCHRY AREA, USING LOCAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE.     Leuchars reached close to 16 yesterday, but Strathallan had nearly 25mms of rain. Pitlochry turned out wetter than expected p.m.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
Quite a lot of rain to the west & moving east. However, radar evidence shows that this is fragmenting, so perhaps only a few showery outbreaks reaching Pitlochry & by afternoon, some spells of more broken cloud & some sunny intervals being the order of the day. It will, however, become rather windy from the west (about force 4 or 5). Maximum temperatures about 12. Mostly dry overnight & somewhat cooler than recent nights.

FORECASTING IS BASED ON MET OFFICE & BBC MATERIAL, WHICH IS THEN TAILORED FOR THE PITLOCHRY AREA, USING LOCAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE.   Since the 17th of October, the rainfall total has risen from 32.3mms to 75.8mms by this morning.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
A very mild day, when the most-favoured spots in Scotland (eg--southern shores of Moray Firth) may reach at least 17. Pitlochry may reach close on 15. After some early low cloud & a little light rain,  it should become mainly dry, if staying rather cloudy, with a few sunny intervals possible. Winds will be S or SE force 2. A spell of rain may clip our area for a time overnight. It will be mild.

Apart from an odd slight shower, much of today should remain dry until evening. At that point, light rain is expected to spread in from the south, becoming heavier during the night. Winds will be S to SE force 2 & maximum temperatures should reach 12 or 13 (milder than average ).

A common scene on recent days, with low cloud either shrouding the hills or lying in bands lower down.
The last 48 hours have seen over 30mms of rain. This morning, the radar shows rainfall is light & patchy, but it is likely that bands of heavier rain will affect the area during the afternoon, evening & night.
