Yesterday's maximum of 18.4, resulting from more sunshine than predicted in a warm southerly airflow, was close to the record October maximum of 18.6 recorded in 1997. Meanwhile, Kinloss--well sheltered by the Cairngorms in moist southerlies, topped 19.9.
