THE ONLY ONLINE WEATHER SERVICE WHERE THE OBSERVER LIVES & RECORDS IN PITLOCHRY, USING PREVIOUS MET OFFICE CLIMATE STATION EXPERIENCE. FORECASTING IS BASED ON MET OFFICE & BBC MATERIAL, WHICH IS THEN TAILORED FOR THE PITLOCHRY AREA, USING LOCAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE.    Yesterday saw an incursion of tropical maritime air & temperatures were well into double figures. Unfortunately, these events are usually infrequent & often short-lived during our winters, with competing air masses always close at hand, in the form of polar maritime, arctic maritime & polar continental air streams.
So it's now back to the least severe of the competing air flows--polar maritime. FRIDAY will be cold & windy, with possibly a few showers as well as some sunny intervals.Maximum temperature 5 or 6. There may be a slight frost overnight.
THE WEEKEND should be mostly dry, with some sunny intervals as well as partly cloudy skies. Winds will be moderate from W to NW, with Sunday being the milder day(Saturday 5, Sunday 8) Overnight Fri/Sat may see a slight frost.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
Thursday will not be as mild as yesterday (some 5 degrees lower) & there has been a late slight ground frost.  There should be some sunny intervals, especially this morning, though partly cloudy in the main, & with only light W or NW winds. Overnight, some rain is expected & winds will increase.

The odd front may bring a little rain, mainly overnight, but never amounting to much.  The WEEKEND promises to be reasonable for the time of year.

FORECASTING IS BASED ON MET OFFICE & BBC MATERIAL, WHICH IS THEN TAILORED FOR THE PITLOCHRY AREA, USING LOCAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE.    High pressure is dominating Scotland's weather, with barometers close on 1040mbs. During the week, the high will sink slowly southwards, though still remain the greatest influence over our weather & between now & Thursday it should stay dry, save for a little rain for a time during the middle of Tuesday, as a weak front skirts round the northern edge of the "high". Temperatures will then tend to rise to give maximum up to 8 or so, with frost becoming less likely The breeze will tend to pick up a little from between W & NW. Less sunshine is likely after today.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
Very frosty start, with mist & fog in the valley which may be slow to clear. Temperatures struggling to 3 or less. Winds will be light today.Much of the day will see good sunny spells (at least above the mist & fog), but later in the afternoon, cloud will tend to increase, perhaps with further mist & fog patches around the area. Slight frost overnight, though-please note- the 24hr period of observation is likely to result in the minimum being the figure of -5.5, the 0900 temperature this morning.

Temperature range +3 to -2, winds mostly force 1 or 2 from W or NW.

FORECASTING IS BASED ON MET OFFICE & BBC MATERIAL, WHICH IS THEN TAILORED FOR THE PITLOCHRY AREA, USING LOCAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE.     High pressure will dictate Scotland's weather for the next few days, with a theme of below average temperatures, light winds, cold days + frost & fog. There will also be some sunshine around (though sometimes obscured by mist & fog).  SATURDAY to MONDAY will be plagued by early morning mist & fog, while in prone spots, it may be reluctant to clear .Max. temps. will struggle to better 2 or 3, though only slight overnight frosts are expected as patches of cloud prevent larger falls in temperature. Winds should always be light, mainly blowing from W to NW.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
A very frosty start (see figure in table below). The thermometer will probably take till lunchtime to briefly exceed 0. After a good deal of sunshine during the morning, there are likely to be some patches of cloud thereafter. Following yesterday's vigorous depression in the North Sea ( some force 9 gusts last evening, with power cuts locally), a quietening-down process now begins, with high pressure building.
It looks like dry weather for THURSDAY to SUNDAY, with light winds, broken cloud & some sunshine, cold by day ( 3 or so max), with overnight frost & mist & fog patches (minimum 0 to -3). There is a fly in the ointment, however, with the chance of a temperature inversion situation over the weekend, which would hinder mist & fog clearance & keep temperatures close to freezing for parts of daylight hours too.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
Dry with plenty of sunshine. Winds from the NW, fresh to strong at first & bitingly cold,  but decreasing during the day. Max.temp. up to 3 or 4, but with a pronounced wind chill.  Tonight clear & frosty (-4 & perhaps lower)
