October Summary

                OCTOBER 2013---WEATHER SUMMARY


The month was milder & wetter than the long-term average.

The mean maximum temperature at 12.9, was 1.0 degree above normal, having the mildest October days since 2007.
The mean minimum temperature at 6.5 was 1.7 degrees above the long-term average.
On the 6th, the maximum temperature rose to 18.4, not quite beating the 18.6 in Oct. 1997.
There were 3 air frosts & 6 ground frosts.

The distribution of rainfall was very uneven. By the 15th of the month, only 24% of average had fallen, but by month's end, this had shot up to 117%. Numerous fronts associated with low pressure certainly brought frequent rain belts, with sometimes heavy rain. It ended up the wettest October since 2006.
The wettest day was the 19th with 16.1mms, but there were also a further 3 days with the total exceeding 10mms.
