SEPTEMBER 2011----SUMMARY

Temperatures during the month turned out a little above the long-term average. The mean maximum figure at 16.0 degrees, was just 0.2 above the normal, but a number of mild nights resulted in a mean minimum temperature of 8.9, 1.2 above the average & the highest figure for September nights since 2006.

The brief warm spell at the end of the month, saw the thermometer reaching a high of 22.5, well below the September record., but most welcome after such a poor summer. The coldest night on the 15th, had a low of 5.1, quite a high figure for a month that can occasionally see frosts.

Rainfall for the month at 111.7mms was 139% of the long-term average & gave the wettest September for 5 years. It means that each of the last 3 months has been significantly wetter than normal. The wettest day of Sept. 2011 was the 16th with 17.6mms.

Not a month that is likely to be remembered!
