MONDAY 10th JANUARY

HEADLINES @ 0900Hrs
The snowfall further west, fizzled out overnight & we only received slight rain, with rising temperatures.Following an early evening low of -4.1, the current temperature has now risen to 1.0.

PILOCHRY TODAY
A rather cloudy day, dry for much of the time, though an odd light rain shower is possible. It will be less cold than for some days, with top temperature around 3 or 4 degrees.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
A spell of wet weather will arrive from the south. On ground above about 300m, there is likely to be a considerable snowfall. At this stage, there is doubt about whether there will be any snowfall in Pitlochry & more detail will appear early this evening. Later in the night, it is expected to become fine & clear with a slight frost & resulting icy roads & pavements.

OUTLOOK
A mainly fine, dry day on Tuesday, following the early frost.

A TRIBUTE to ROB McELWEE
Last evening's late news on BBC 1 saw the final broadcast from presenter Rob McElwee, one of the BBC weather team for 20 years, the longest serving member. Nicknamed the "prof"in the trade, Rob often tried to explain the mechanics of what was in his forecast, probably much appreciated by the enthusiast. Perhaps many others would have regarded him more as a "boring old fart"who tended to waffle & "go on a bit". As there is no shortage of presenters who are very brief & very superficial (certainly on channels other than BBC) I for one am sorry to see him go!
