FRIDAY 7th JANUARY---EVENING

UPDATE@ 1700Hrs
Our region has been the coldest part of the U.K. today (Max. Temp. -3.4 ), but it was nevertheless a delightful day, with lots of sunshine to be had. The temperature has again been falling during the past 2 or 3 hours, with a current value of -6.7.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
A problem night for the forecasters in this neck of the woods, as a belt of snow encroaches from the south. Snow is likely to commence locally by late evening or soon after midnight. Pitlochry is likely to be close to the western edge of the snow area, so it seems probable that some of the snow may be light, with just a few heavier outbreaks. Depths of fresh snow lying by the morning are likely to be in the range 4 to 6cms, rather more on ground above about 200m. Ice will still be a problem, although temperatures may well rise a little overnight.

OUTLOOK
Cold at first, but becoming unsettled and milder by Tuesday/Wednesday.
