The small community of FLAM, Norway.
The initial surprise is that, despite the size of our ship, we are some 115miles inland from the open sea!
Sognefjord is the most extensive & deepest of the Norwegian fjords & at its deepest point about 3,700ft .Near the head of the fjord, mountains rise to around 6,000ft & summits are snow-covered all year round.

Waterfalls abound in this area & plunge in cascades to the peaceful waters below. This is glaciated country par excellence, with its deep U-shaped valleys created by moving ice during the last Ice Age.
