PITLOCHRY WEATHER SUMMARY for DECEMBER 2012
The above photograph, taken around noon on the 31st of the month, helps to support the headlines of this last month's summary---IT HAS BEEN THE WETTEST DECEMBER IN THE PITLOCHRY AREA IN RECORDS GOING BACK TO AT LEAST 1954.
The total fall of 204.2mms was 221% of the December normal & 154mms of this fell between the 19th & 31st, less than 50mms having fallen up to the 18th.
The wettest day was the 20th, with 45.6mms within the 24hr. period.
SNOW fell & lay on 10 days, though the maximum depth was only 6cms.
As far as temperatures were concerned, December 2012 was around 1 degree below normal, with a mean maximum of 4.7 & a mean minimum of -1.0. The highest value was 11.7, the lowest -9.6, neither being record-breakers.
