NOVEMBER 2012
The month turned out rather cold but dry.
The mean max. temp. of 7.4 was 0.9 below the long-term average.
The mean min.temp. of 1.0 was 0.6 below the long-term average.
(Nov. 2010 was much colder, while Nov.2011 was much milder)
The highest temperature of 13.2 (6th) & lowest of -4.0 (30th) broke no records.
There were 14 air frosts & 24 ground frosts.
Considering how frequently floods made the news during the month, from Comrie to SW England & later from NE England to N Wales, Pitlochry escaped the worst that was going & the wettest 24hr period saw only a fall of 13mms. The month's total of 63.7mms was only 68% of average, making it the driest November here since 2008.
Only on 2 occasions was light snow observed to fall at town levels (3rd & 30th)
DECEMBER 2012
(Please note that this forecast is based on Met Office material which is still at the experimental stage & is not totally reliable. You are best not to make weather-dependent decisions that are based on its contents. Where appropriate, it is tailored to be applicable to the local area.)
The first half of the month is likely to see temperatures below the average, with frequent overnight frosts & mist & fog patches, especially in the valleys. The odd shower of sleet or snow is likely, but it should often be dry with some reasonable amounts of sunshine..
The latter half of December seems likely to remain colder than average, with frequent overnight frosts & mist & fog patches. Total amounts of precipitation should be below normal, though what does fall is more likely to be snow than rain.
Please note that I will not be updating this forecast, but updates will take place on the Met Office website (see favourite links)
