Sunday 1 September 2013

Please note that as a result of a fault in transmission of temperature data from the screen sensor to the control panel, the first half of August temperatures are not available.

WHAT WAS SUMMER 2013 LIKE?

JUNE---   June's temperatures were close to normal ( mean maximum slightly above)
Rainfall was only 59%( 3rd driest June since 2000.)

JULY ---   July was warmer than normal, with temperatures peaking at 28.3 on the 9th.
                  11 days exceeded 24c (75f).
Rainfall was close to normal, the driest July since 2006.

AUGUST ---The first half of August was more changeable, with temperatures not
bettering 22.2 degrees & with 24mms of rain. The second half of the month                      was rather warm, with 23.3 degrees recorded on the 26th.
The August rainfall total ended up at a below average 37.3mms---the driest
since 2003. My Sunday newspaper confirms that the Edinburgh/Fife                               area had been the driest in Britain during the month.

Overall, most of us will regard 2013 as the best summer for several years, but this perhaps says more about the poor quality of recent summers, rather than the brilliance of this one!
