APRIL in PITLOCHRY

On average, April is the driest month of the year( 48.8mms).
Only on 1 occasion (2005) has the fall exceeded 100mms.

The month is quite capable of having both summery & wintry
spells. In 1984, for example, the temperature rose to 23.5,
higher than anything seen in the March just gone. In contrast,
1994 saw one day with the thermometer pegged at just 3.2 at best,
while 1988 saw a night when the temperature dropped to -5.7.
1989 saw a ground frost of -10.0 on one night.

This April may well end up with colder days than we saw in March,
so great was the positive temperature anomaly of the month just gone.

The MET OFFICE LONG-RANGE FORECASTS suggest rather
unsettled conditions, with belts of rain or showers & some overnight
frosts up to the 15th. Thereafter, it is expected to remain rather
unsettled, giving at least normal amounts of rain. It is also likely to be
on the cool side of normal. There are no mentions of any dry, warm
settled spells----so a bit of a "come-down" after March.
