OCTOBER 2012 in PITLOCHRY
The month was colder than normal, especially the nights, but rainfall was very close to the long-term average.
The mean maximum temperature was 10.2 (1.7 below normal & the lowest since 2002).
The mean minimum temperature, which included 12 air frosts, had a larger negative anomaly, with the figure of 1.6 being a huge 3.2 degrees below average, with nothing colder since 1992.
The temperature extremes for the month, with no records broken, were 13.1 & -4.2.
The month's rainfall was very close to the average for October, 104mms as against 106.4. 56% of the total fell on just 3 days (11th-13th), when river levels rose rapidly.
There was just one day (26th), when snow fell at town level, though snow could be seen on Ben Vrackie, at least temporarily, on another couple of occasions.
Perhaps not a memorable October, but one that gave us all a reminder, particularly with 12 air frosts & 21 ground frosts, that we are well into Autumn with Winter "knocking at the door"
