JULY 2011---Spitsbergen

THERE WILL BE NO FURTHER UPDATES OF DATA OR FORECASTS FOR THE TIME BEING.

                                                   .JULY---AVERAGES & EXTREMES

Mean Maximum--19.2     Mean Minimum--10.4       Average Rainfall-- 60.5mms
Record High Temp--30.0(1983)    Record Low Temp--1.5 (2004)
Wettest Month--153 (2002)    Driest Month--4.6 (1983)

                                                 SUMMARY of JUNE 2013

June 2013 was very slightly warmer than average, the mean maximum by 0.4 of a degree, the mean minimum by 0.1.   Rainfall had a rather larger departure from average, the month's total of 36.6mms being only 59% of the long-term average, though we only have to go back to 2010 to find an even drier one.
This June is unlikely to stick in the memory, at least for meteorological reasons. No existing temperature extremes were broken, the top temperature of just 23.1 on the 8th scarcely being noteworthy. The lowest temperature, while not a record, did fall to within 0.8 of freezing point on the 2nd of the month.
With a low rainfall total, no dramatic downpours featured, the highest 24hr total only being 14.2mms on the 22nd.
If people actually needed reminding, the month was totally lacking in a lengthy warm, dry, sunny spell. There were far too many days when cloudy skies held sway & worthwhile sunshine was hard come-by.
Best wishes to all readers, Barry.
