During cold spells, it is very welcoming to have a day of clear blue skies & plenty of sunshine. It helps to enhance the appearace of any snow that is lying, particularly so on the surrounding hills. But there is a price to pay should those clear skies remain overnight, as this encourages frost of greater severity. Skies were clear on Monday & at least for the first part of Monday night, with a -8.2 minimum temperature the consequence.
Tuesday remained cloudy both by day & during the first part of the night, though breaks in the cloud later on, resulted in a moderate frost by this morning.
