DECEMBER SUMMARY

Temperatures for the month were close to normal (mean max +0.5, mean min -0.1 ). Much of the time was spent in tussles between mild incursions of air from the SW conflicting with with colder NW airstreams, the latter failing to bring anything significantly wintry, other than a few notably cold days around Christmas, with Boxing Day failing to reach freezing point. Snowfall proved insignificant.
After the very dry September, December joined October & November in helping to restore the defecit. The fall of 119.5mm was 130% of the long-term December average.  There were 16 air frosts. No records were broken & it is unlikely the month will stick in anyone's memory for meteorological reasons.
