TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY-(from noon)

Cloudy throughout, though mild, with patchy light rain a.m.  During the afternoon, the rain is expected to become heavier & more persistent, before gradually becoming more showery in nature later on, accompanied by a fall in temperature as colder air digs in behind the cold front that brought the rain. From close to 9 degrees now temperatures will be not far from freezing by dawn.

THURS, FRI, SAT
Some boisterous conditions are expected at times during this period, as very deep, vigorous low pressure systems whistle by the far North of Scotland. Much of the country will see strong winds from a westerly quadrant, but by far & away, the worst conditions will be reserved for the north coast, Northern Isles, oil rigs & mountainous areas, where gusts may well exceed 100mph.  Gusts up to 60mph seem likely in the local area, higher across the Tay Bridge & other well exposed locations.
Another feature will be that the fronts associated with these depressions are likely to give bands of rain & sharp changes of temperature. At least one brief spell of mild conditions is likely, only to be undercut by polar air capable of bringing some snow showers on Saturday.
