TEMPERATURE RECORDS FOR PITLOCHRY 1976---2012

FEBRUARY---HIGHEST MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE  15.1 (23rd)
                          
MARCH----HIGHEST MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE  21.7 (26th/27th)

MAY----HIGHEST MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE  26.1 (24th)
             HIGHEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE  15.0  (24th)

AUGUST----LOWEST MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE  11.3 (31st)
                      LOWEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE  0.1 (31st)




JANUARY CONTRASTS IN PITLOCHRY

Back in JAN 1963 (remember the big freeze?), Pitlochry

only received 11mms of rain (including melted snow)

This is just 10% of the average fall. However, in

JANUARY 1993,we received 273mms (10.7inches) of rain 

& 250% of normal.

This is the highest amount received in a single month

since at least 1954.

In January 1982, the thermometer fell to -19.6 locally on

the exceptionally frosty night of the 8th (the ground

minimum was down to -23.2). That same night, Braemar

claimed its British low record air minimum of -27.2.
