The Met Office Chart below indicates a fairly benign set-up for the time of year, with some short relief from the wintry spell.
However, it would seem that the final week of January is going to be dominated by arctic air, with winds in the NW, so showers are likely to turn more to snow. Night frosts are again likely.
As yet, however, I have seen no reference to anything really severe coming in from the east!
