THE ONLY ONLINE WEATHER SERVICE WHERE THE OBSERVER LIVES & RECORDS IN PITLOCHRY
I took a trip on the train to Inverness yesterday; something magic about it that you don't quite capture on the A9. In both directions, the train chanced to stop at Dalwhinnie (several don't, as it really is a wee place).
There must have been 10 inches of snow lying there, though part of the platform had been cleared. At an altitude of 350ms, this is undoubtedly the highest station on a main line in Britain.
It is also well-known in the weather-world as being one of the coldest villages in Britain (Tomintoul is in a similar category, but to my knowledge does not have a weather station). Dalwhinnie does & it's in the grounds of the distillery. Sometimes it is shown in my newspaper as having been the coldest place in the U.K. the previous day.
Unfortunately, newspapers often show the coldest places as Cairngorm or Aonach More (Ben Nevis). This is really a waste of time as they are ski resorts, not permanent settlements & over 3000feet anyway---a case, as Basil Fawlty might say, of stating the bleeding obvious!
