A WARM WELCOME TO PITLOCHRY WEATHER!
THE ONLY ONLINE WEATHER SERVICE WHERE THE OBSERVER LIVES & RECORDS IN PITLOCHRY, USING PREVIOUS MET OFFICE CLIMATE STATION EXPERIENCE. FORECASTING IS BASED ON MET OFFICE & BBC MATERIAL, WHICH IS THEN TAILORED FOR THE PITLOCHRY AREA, USING LOCAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE.

The Tummel in spate (11am 28/10/14 ). Much of the heaviest & most persistent of the recent rain has been rather further west than the catchment area of our local river.

All credit to the skills & expertise of our forecasters, together with existing technology. The exceptional rain event was well-spotted & spotted early Estimated rainfall amounts were also very well predicted.
One wonders just what extra a £97m computer could have added to this situation, which the Met Men had well-in-hand, including the time rain would eventually cease.

Similarly, the professionals with existing technology were scarely off the mark over last winter's excess of rain.floods, storminess & mildness.

Perhaps the main blunders from the Met Office have been to release seasonal forecast data to the press when it was largely still experimental.  The tabloids were only too happy to select & exaggerate some of the failures for all it was worth, but why did professional meteorologists blab to the likes of the Sun in the first place??
