Since records began locally in 1954, there has never been such a wet winter period as the one just gone. The winter months are taken as Dec,/Jan& Feb.
The rainfall of Dec 2013, taken with those of Jan & Feb 2014, has totalled an enormous 620.2mms,
This represents 342mm above the average. Many parts of Britain have. of course, been flooded,
either because of excessive rain or coastal gales along with spring tides & high winds.
Frost & snow have been conspicuous by their absence, though some of the higher ground
has had a fair share. The highest temperature has only been 10.4, the lowest only -2.0 in the
local area, certainly nothing to write home about.
The winter of 2013/14 will undoubtedly go down in the memory as the winter when snow- pushers
were not heeded & rainfall was excessive. Mind you don't forget that March can sometimes be a wintry month!
