CUMULONIMBUS CLOUDS often develop in hot, humid conditions.& are associated with thunderstorms.. The Austria/Hungary area was certainly due some thundery weather in early August of this year, as maximum temperatures rose in excess of 35 degrees.

The photograph shows a storm developing in the late afternoon period. The top of these clouds can reach over 30,000 ft & are best avoided by airliners, because of the dangers posed by severe turbulence or lightening strikes.

There are some cumulonimbus clouds around the local area this afternoon, which have developed in a warm, humid & unstable airmass. In such situations, some places will receive a heavy downpour, while others, not far away, may receive little or nothing. Spot forecasting in such situations, is well nigh impossible & sensible forecasters avoid naming precise spots that are in the bull's eye for a cloud burst.
