                                               JUNE 2014 SUMMARY

JUNE TURNED OUT TO BE A WARM MONTH, THOUGH RAINFALL WAS A LITTLE ABOVE AVERAGE.

The average maximum temperature was 19.1 ( 1.7 degrees above normal), though June 2010 was warmer.
The average minimum temperature was 10.4 (1.9 degrees above normal) & this proved to be the highest figure for June since at least 1976 when local records began. Only 11 nights of the 30 fell into single figures & the thermometer never fell below 4.1 (on the 4th).  It was certainly a month when gardeners & growers had no worries about late frosts!

Despite the fact that rainfall in the 2nd half of June only amounted to 0.8mms, necessitating the use of hose pipes & watering cans, the overall month's total was 71.3mm (115%), the wettest 24hr period being the 14th with 20.9mms.

Overall, June was not a month to complain about weatherwise, though there were some frustrating days in the final week, when cloud proved stubborn to clear & accurate forecasting was particularly difficult.
