Yesterday gave some much-needed rainfall (tourists won't agree). Some places to the east of Pitlochry had exceptionally heavy showers, a glance at the regional radar at the time, showing exactly where, but it's very much a hit & miss affair. Forecasting that torrential rain will move from place A to place B is a very dangerous assumption. Thunderstorms can quickly weaken or indeed intensify, they can change direction slighty & hardly affect a town that was predicted to get the full works. Forecasters' faces are then covered with egg.
The general rule about torrential thundery downpours is that high ground is more vulnerable & places right next to the sea are less likely to get the worst. Another rule is that the heavier the rain, the smaller the area affected, though bearing in mind my article on global warming, these assumptions may gradually become of less significance. * NEW*
