It wasn't really the sort of July most of us would have wanted! Although temperatures were only fractionally below the long-term average, the top temperature of only 23.1 degrees (3rd ) was disappointing.
There were no sustained spell of fine, warm weather, though the final week did see 5 days in excess of 20 degrees.
Rainfall totals were excessive, ( 205% of the average July figure) & it proved Pitlochry's wettest July since 2002. Places not too far away were even wetter, some substantially so.
There were a couple of ground frosts during the month, the night of the 23rd being particularly chilly(-2.7 on the ground.)
I was out of town for the 2nd half of the month, heading for colder regions!! We ended up encountering unusual amounts of drift ice in the northern-most waters we sailed through, but at least had 6 days with perpetual daylight. I hope to put a selection of photographs from this holiday on the blog in the near future, all with a geographical & meteorological emphasis.
Here's hoping for a warmer, drier August than average! Barry
