A few photos of the Tummel yesterday afternoon can be found by paging down. It would appear that Lossiemouth was probably the wettest spot in Britain yesterday, chalking up a massive total  of close on 5 inches of rain. I suspect that the rise in the level of the Tummel was more to do with rainfall amounts in the catchment area than the 38mms recorded in Pitlochry itself.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY

Only small amounts of rain still to fall today,(mostly this morning), as " Bertha" moves away, though temperatures will remain well below the August average, & cloudy skies tend to predominate.  Scotrail services as well as the East Coast service to King's Cross are still cancelled, with flooding problems around Kingussie. Expect replacement buses.

The OUTLOOK promises drier conditions, though still rather cloudy at times with below-normal temperatures. 

Tomorrow may be about the best we get in the next few days.

Another cloudy day, with rain at times, some moderate in intensity, though the worst of it is now further north. There is flooding around Elgin & Kingussie & the 0755 Highland Chieftain rail service from Inverness to London Kings Cross has already been cancelled, with Scotrail services also disrupted.

It will be very cool today, with temperatures more akin to those of early October.  Winds will be W4, gusting to force 6 on occasions.

OUTLOOK---Temperatures remaining below average for much of the week, but with time, the occasional rain or showers, should be replaced by drier weather with more in the way of sunshine.

Not looking good, as ex-tropical storm Bertha adds to Britain's weather problems.  It is not unusual to find such features affecting the country, but this one is unusually early in the season.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY

We may well start with an hour or two of dry weather, or just a few spits & spots at times, but really it's a case of "downhill" all the way, as heavier & more persistent rain sets in, not only for today but also tonight, as well as tomorrow morning. Along with the rain, will come late September temperatures & though winds will be light & variable for much of today, overnight & tomorrow morning, they will have become W fresh or strong.

So very much a period for staying indoors, forgetting about the garden & keeping well away from the mountains, where rainfall totals are certain to be higher & winds considerably stronger.

Much of the day promises to be dry, with broken cloud & sunny intervals.However, skies are expected to become more cloudy later in the day, with an increasing risk of showers or longer spells of rain. ( At present it looks as though places further east may receive the higher rainfall totals )
