LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK

WEDNESDAY---A problem day, with snow spreading from the west.  As snowfall coincides with daytime, accumulations in the town & on main roads should be limited, but out of town ,up the hillsides, a few cms are expected to accumulate, while above 200 to 250ms there could be 10cms, with some drifting.   Later in the day, snow will turn to sleet & then rain at lowest elevations, before dying out during the evening.   It will generally be cold & windy.

THURSDAY---An improving day, though perhaps overcast & damp initially. Some thawing taking place, as temperatures reach 4, with lighter W winds.

The lying snow situation this morning, following the fine-line set-up between rain/sleet/snow yesterday.

We have a perfect co-incidence of the Moulin to Kinnaird road, at a height of about 200 metres, providing the snow line.

It can be appreciated that it is not easy for forecasters to get things just right when it comes to getting an accurate picture for a spot location, with those living in Pitlochry waking up to a rather different scene this morning than those living 200 metres or more higher up.

A lucky, knife- edged escape from snowfall yesterday, as temperatures remained close to 1 degree too high for snow, keeping us in the sleet & rain. The surrounding hills, however, confirm the story.  Today is expected to be mainly dry, with broken cloud at times. Winds will be force 3 from the SE, with highest temperature up to a chilly 3 or 4 degrees.TONIGHT, apart from the risk of an odd snow shower, it should be predominantly dry, with some clear spells & a frost.

TUESDAY---Mainly dry with broken cloud & some occasional sunshine. Still feeling cold in a chilly SE breeze. Frost early & late.


WEDNESDAY---Overcast with snow spreading from the west. This may turn more sleety with time, but heavy falls can be expected on ground above 250 to 300 metres.
