THE ONLY ONLINE WEATHER SERVICE WHERE THE OBSERVER LIVES & RECORDS IN PITLOCHRY, USING PREVIOUS MET OFFICE CLIMATE STATION EXPERIENCE. FORECASTING IS BASED ON MET OFFICE & BBC MATERIAL, WHICH IS THEN TAILORED FOR THE PITLOCHRY AREA, USING LOCAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
A cloudy start, with a belt of rain moving northwards across the area at first. It should dry out later this morning
& thereafter it should be mostly dry with only the odd isolated shower around. Feeling on the cold side, though at least winds should be light.
MAX TEMP  8         WIND   variable 1 or 2        OVERNIGHT MIN TEMP  4

QUICK SUMMARY OF THE WEEK AHEADA good deal of dry weather during Tuesday to Thursday, though always the risk of an odd shower. During this period, the nights are expected to be nippy with a couple of slight air frosts on the cards. (I am aware that one tabloid in particular seems to specialize in warning readers of "storm, flood, freeze-up, heat-wave, blizzard etc etc. These are usually over-exaggerations & are milked for all it's worth to sell more newspapers.
REMEMBER---average November days DO feel cold (8 or 9 degrees), nights often have frosts (Av temp 1.6)
snowfall is very common on the Cairngorm Mts & hardly rare on Ben Vrackie!
By Thursday night/ Friday, we will probably be back to milder but wetter weather in any case.

At least the £97million computer may help to kill off some of the rubbish in the press concerning the weather!

OCTOBER 14 SUMMARY

A WARM WELCOME TO PITLOCHRY WEATHER!

                                       SUMMARY OCTOBER 2014

Overall, the month was both milder & wetter than the long-term average.

The mean maximum temperature at 12.6 was 0.7 degrees above normal,
the mean minimum temperature at 5.5 was also 0.7 degrees above normal.

The month's highest temperature was 17.2 on the 18th, while -1.0 on the 14th
proved to be the lowest---no records broken.

There were only 2 air frosts during the entire month, while on the early evening
of the 31st, the temperature rose to a surprisingly mild 16.3, certainly impressive for Halloween.

Rainfall at 153.2mms was 144% of average & the wettest October since 2006.
3 days between them accounted for nearly half of the total fall (5th/6th/27th), but all told, 25 days had measurable rainfall.
Incidentally, October this year had 15 times the amount of rain that fell in September!!
