WEEKEND FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY

An unreliable & uninspiring weekend, though nothing extreme. A similarity between today & tomorrow, with little or no sunshine, plenty of low cloud,some occasional rain (mainly light), but also some dry spells.

Winds will be light, mainly from the SE, with best temperatures in a range 9 to 12, the higher value more likely on Sunday, The night to come should be mild & probably becoming rather wet.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY

Very disappointing again, though Pitlochry certainly fared better than Perth yesterday with regards rainfall amounts.    The misty low cloud is likely to persist for much of the time, but rainfall is likely to be more significant this morning, becoming lighter by afternoon & eventually dying out. Still cool, with maximum temperature around 8, with light SE winds. Tonight is expected to stay cloudy with perhaps some further rain, but no frost.

The weekend looks like being rather unsettled, but perhaps temperatures improving on the last couple of days.

Nothing very exciting about local weather today, but at least we have no warnings of excessive pollution & Saharan dust.

Winds are still in the E & a mainly cloudy day is in prospect, with top temperatures around 8. If there is any brightness, it would be most likely later in the day, but yet again, it is essentially "west is best" The odd patch of light rain or drizzle may occur, but rain may become more significant during the evening & overnight, as well as feature in tomorrow's forecast.

                                                          MARCH 2014 SUMMARY 

My first thoughts as we move into April are "Has the area ever had such an easy winter as this one has been?"  I have no long-term records of frost or snow details for Pitlochry but perhaps a local reader who has seen several decades of Pitlochry winters  can enlighten me.All I know is that my snow-pusher has not been used this winter!
March was considerably less unsettled than January & February, with only 71mms of rain (87%). The greatest 24hr fall was 19.7mms on the 20th. Temperatures ranged from a low of -5.8 to a high of 14.5, with no records broken.
Some of the days in the final week, under the influence of high pressure & E winds, well- illustrated that Pitlochry is a little too near the East Coast for comfort, though accurate forecasting on such days is difficult.
Yesterday was an excellent example, with vastly different conditions within a few miles.
Finally, just a mention of the Cairngorms, where all our rain fell as snow. Some depths were measured in metres & the skiing industry seems delighted.

A welcome change yesterday, but you didn't have to go very far to the E or SE to find the dull, cold conditions (Leuchars 7.6 ).   Today is expected to remain mostly cloudy & there will be some rain, this more so a.m. Most of the rain will be light & there should still be some dry spells, more so p.m.
Temperatures will be back to the 7 or 8 level again. with winds in the E or SE around force2.
WEDNESDAY is expected to be dry, but cloudy & cool.
