LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK
Remaining very cold, though winds generally not as strong. Some snow showers around, with  mainly cloudy skies, but snow accumulations generally small & without drifting at normal altitudes. Overnight frosts.   No prospects of anything milder this side of Easter!  Looks like ending up as one of the coldest March months ever, in contrast to last year--which was one of the warmest.  Isn't our weather becoming even more variable than ever?

LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK

Between Friday & Monday, the story is very much a wintry one.  Daytime temperatures will struggle around 0 to+2, with frost each night. There will be a force 4, E to SE wind to accentuate the cold.  Much of the time is likely to be cloudy, with some snow at times, with a high risk of  accumulations.   (last year, temperatures exceeded 20 degrees between the 25th & 27th!!!)

Some moderate snow falling at present, though struggling to settle on roads & pavements & some thawing taking place. There is likely to be more snow at times, especially this morning, though tending to get lighter & patchier later, with some dry spells, even some sunny intervals. It will still be at least 5 degrees down on normal, with moderate winds from the SE.  TONIGHT---still a few snow showers about, but also long dry spells with clear periods & a frost.

LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK

Thursday should see less in the way of snowfall & some lengthy dry spells, though it will still be very cold with a chilling wind from the SE. 

Problems begin by Friday, as fronts(potentially bringing rain & milder weather from the SW)   run into the colder air still stuck over Scotland. There is a likelihood of AMBER or even RED warnings being issued, with significant falls of snow in many areas, accompanied by temperatures close to zero & strong SE winds. 

ALTITUDE is paramount with regard to amounts of snow that fall.

On this occasion, being near to the East Coast has also been a factor in determining how much snow fell &.
Pitlochry has been on the western fringes of  most of the snow belts & showers that have moved in from the east & north east.

The AMBER warning system, found on the Met Office Site & also used by the BBC, certainly over-played the amount of snow predicted to fall in this part of Perthshire. Still, it was a nice surprise to find the snow-pushers were not required this morning!   

I'm now keeping an eye on Friday/ Saturday, when Atlantic fronts, trying to push further north eastwards, will run into the cold air that will still be hanging around over much of Scotland.

Despite amber warnings covering this area, virtually no snow around this morning, save on the surrounding hills. Places further east received more, including Perth & Dundee, Angus & eastern extremities of Perthshire.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY

A very cold day ahead, with temperatures 5 or 6 degrees below normal & not helped by an easterly breeze, fresh at times. Occasional dry, bright intervals, but generally cloudy, with frequent snow flurries or spells of mainly light snow. Again, snowfall will be heavier further east, especially inland, on higher ground.  TONIGHT may see a few further snow showers, especially at first, but some clear spells & a frost are likely later on.

LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK

Continuing in a wintry vein, with winds from an easterly quarter & daytime temperatures at least 5 to 7 degrees below the normal for this time.  Frost is likely on most nights.          During Wednesday & Thursday, there should be more in the way of dry weather, with some brightness & only isolated snow showers.     However, things are expected to deteriorate during Friday & Saturday, as fronts moving from th south west, run into the colder air over Northern Britain, with the likelihood of strong winds & snowfall.

Generally cloudy, with spells of rain or sleet this morning, but sleet or snow more likely p.m.. There should also be a few drier intervals.There may be some light & wet accumulations of snow by the end of  the day but perhaps more significant amounts by tomorrow morning. Snowfall is expected to be at its heaviest over easternmost parts of Perthshire & over inland & higher parts of Angus. It will be a cold day everywhere, with a force 4 or 5  E.wind & highest temperatures around 3 at best (normal around 8 to 9). More occasional snow around tonight, with temperatures close to zero.
