After a cloudy start to Sunday, skies should brighten later in the morning to give some intervals of sunshine. During the afternoon, heaped-up clouds will tend to develop, these capable of producing heavy downpours, perhaps with hail & thunder. Some spots may receive a deluge, whilst others nearby, receive little little or no rain.The shower risk may well persist through the evening & into the night.Not as warm as yesterday, but still feeling close, with maximum about 18. Winds generally light, mainly from an E.quarter.

LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK----MONDAY to THURSDAY
 Over this period, low pressure over Britain is likely to be replaced by high pressure. Monday & Tuesday are likely to see a mixture of some sunshine, but also showers, some heavy on Monday.By Wednesday & Thursday, the shower risk should have decreased, with long dry spells, though perhaps only limited sunshine. Daytime temperatures should be in a range 17 to 19 & throughout, winds will be light to moderate & somewhat variable in direction.

Again, we are off to a sunny start, following a clear, chilly night .During the day, cloud is likely to develop & build, so we can expect intervals of sunshine, rather than "wall to wall". There may be the odd shower developing this afternoon, though they are likely to be more widespread over Southern Scotland & we could get away with dry conditions for much of the time. The evening seems likely to have the highest risk of a sharp shower, but some places could escape. It will again feel warm in the sunshine, with winds only about force 2.  There may also be some showery activity overnight.

LOCAL OUTLOOK-----SUNDAY to WEDNESDAY
The low pressure system has only moved about as far as the Bristol Channel & as yet, Scotland has not been affected by the showery weather in its circulation.  Sunday would appear to be the most cloudy & showery day of the period, but as we get into the new week, any showers should be scattered, with dry spells & some sunshine in between. It will, however, turn a little cooler, with highest temperatures nearer to 17, as compared to the 20/21 of more recent days.

It was expected that the low would have been right over Britain by this stage, but in the event, its progress towards Scandinavia has been very slow & erratic & most of us will be delighted for it!!

After a better day yesterday than earlier predicted, we may well be in a similar set-up today. Certainly, following a clear, cool night, we are off to a sunny start. During the morning,however, cloud is likely to build up somewhat & a shower is possible during the p.m. period, though they should be well-scattered. Top temperatures should reach around 19 or 20 & winds will be force 2 or 3 from the SE.    It may well turn rather cloudy overnight, with small amounts of rain.

LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK----SATURDAY to TUESDAY
Low pressure to the SW of Ireland, will move erratically & slowly towards Scandinavia by the end of the period. This will leave us in a basically showery situation, with light winds & some dry spells with sunny intervals, between the more cloudy & showery areas.  Sunday may see the most frequent & heaviest showers. By the start of next week, winds may be more in the E. or NE & it will feel a little cooler.

Thursday promises to be quite a nice day. There should be well-broken cloud, especially this morning, with sunny spells.  By this afternoon, more cloud will have bubbled up--capable of producing an odd shower around the region, but some places may well escape. Winds will be force 2 from the SW & highest temperatures should reach 19 or 20 degrees.  Tonight should be dry with some clear spells, with temperatures down to 8 or 9.    SEE JULY REPORT BELOW

LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK----FRIDAY to MONDAY
Low pressure to the west of Ireland, will move slowly over Britain to be over Scandinavia by Monday. The resulting weather will be one of sunny intervals & showers, with SE winds at first becoming N later. Daytime temperatures should begin close to normal, but dropping back a little as winds turn into the N.  Most of the showers are likely to occur during the afternoon & early evening periods, with a few being heavy & thundery. Some spots may largely miss the worst of the showers, a few may receive a large rainfall total in a short period.  SO---VERY MUCH A MIXED WEEKEND, WITH SOME DRY SPELLS WITH PLEASANT SUNSHINE, BUT TAKE A BROLLY-- JUST IN CASE!!

The month was both cool& wet.


THE AVERAGE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS 17.6  (1.6 BELOW NORMAL)
THE AVERAGE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS 9.7  (0.7 BELOW THE NORMAL)


THE MONTH'S TOP TEMPERATURE WAS AN UNEXCITING 23.1 ON THE 5th & ONLY ON 6 DAYS WAS THE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE ABOVE THE AVERAGE FIGURE OF 19.2.


THE COLDEST NIGHT, ON JULY 20th, SAW THE THERMOMETER DOWN TO 4.0 DEGREES, NOWHERE NEAR RECORD-BREAKING.


THE RAINFALL TOTAL OF 94.8mms WAS 157% OF AVERAGE. ONLY 4 DAYS HAD FALLS IN EXCESS OF 10mms, WHILE NUMEROUS OCCASIONS SAW 24HR FALLS OF BETWEEN 1 & 3mms. THERE HAVE BEEN 4 WETTER JULYS SINCE THE YEAR 2000.


THERE WERE NO AIR OR GROUND FROSTS RECORDED & NO THUNDER HEARD NOR HAIL OBSERVED AT THIS SITE.


WITH 2/3rds OF THE "METEOROLOGICAL" SUMMER NOW BEHIND US, THERE HAVE BEEN NO INSTANCES OF ANY PROLONGED HOT & SUNNY CONDITIONS & WE HAVE TO REFLECT BACK TO THE LATE SPRING PERIOD OF MAY 22nd TO 28th FOR SUCH AN OCCURRENCE (A PERFECT TIME FOR MY FAMILY!)   Barry (01/07/12)

Generally overcast, though during the morning, rain will tend to be light & patchy. This afternoon, the rain is likely to become more persistent & heavier. Despite the cloud & rain, temperatures should reach 17 or 18 degrees & it will feel muggy.Winds will be from the SE, up to about force 4. Overnight, the rain will clear & clouds start to break.

LOCAL AREA OUTLOOK---THURSDAY to SUNDAY
Unexpectedly, Thursday may challenge Tuesday as the best day of the week(despite the look of the weather charts!). Low pressure to the west of Ireland, will slowly migrate around Britain for some days to come, keeping things rather showery. So after a respite on Thursday, showers are likely to get going, particularly for the weekend. Each day will see some dry spells with sunny intervals, but from late morning until evening, shower clouds with sharp downpours are on the cards, with perhaps some hail & thunder. Some places will get a deluge, others may largely escape. After a couple of days with SE winds, the track of the low may well pull winds round towards the N. mostly at strengths 2 to 4. Daytime temperatures in the range 17 to 19.  So still no prolonged sunny, hot spells in the offing, but at least a temporary, short-lived reminder of summer during most days.
