The overnight rain should move further north out of our area within the next couple of hours. However, the cloud may be more reluctant to clear, with only a few sunny intervals likely later on. Winds will be force 2 to 3 from the E or NE, with top temperatures around 12 degrees. TONIGHT should find broken cloud & it should stay dry. Frost is not expected.

YESTERDAY IN PITLOCHRYIt was probably the best day of the month, even more so as much of England & Wales had an appalling day!! The sun shone with little interruption & the maximum temperature was higher than expected.

Pressure is low in the SW Approaches & high over Faeroes, A front is ambling away to the north over Scotland & the country seems set to be largely dominated by the high for a few days.

THE EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING IN THE ARCTIC, OPENS UP THE NORTHWEST PASSAGE TO CRUISE SHIPS
A cruise company is advertising a cruise in August 2013 which starts in Iceland & ends up in Alaska via the Northwest Passage. Such is the rate of summer ice melt, that a route which a few years ago would have been unthinkable, has become feasible.
The ship is scheduled to leave Iceland, pass the southern tip of Greenland, proceed northwards along the west coast of Greenland before turning westwards to pass north of Baffin Island. From there it continues through the Parry Channel to Victoria Island, through the narrow Prince of Wales Strait, into the Amundsen Gulf & Beaufort Sea & to Alaska.

Once again there has been an overnight frost, rather more so than on the previous night. So it's a chilly, but gorgeous start with probably a lot of sunshine until the latter part of the afternoon when cloud will increase from the S & SE. Highest temperatures reaching 11 degrees with a force 2 or 3 NE breeze. TONIGHT will see cloud thickening & lowering to give some rain overnight. That will prevent any repeat of the frost of previous nights.

It's a case of rain both to the south & north of the Pitlochry area. We should remain dry for the bulk of the time,but there will be occasions when some light rain just clips into our area briefly. A fresh scattering of snow near the summit of Ben Vrackie. Today's weather charts have a mid-winter look to them, with numerous isobars round a deep low near SW England. Today will be mostly cloudy, with rain at times, often fairly light, but with some moderate outbreaks too. There should also be some dry spells, as the highest rainfall totals are reserved for areas further to the NE of Pitlochry. Temperatures will be below average, with a maximum of only 8 or 9 degrees, while winds blow from the NE, sometimes up to force 5. TONIGHT will be cloudy, with further rain on occasions.

Nothing more encouraging on offer! It is likely to be rather cloudy for much of the time, with some scattered showers around & about.Some dry intervals, with the odd sunny spell are also likely, perhaps more so during the evening..Maximum temperatures will be pegged around 10 degrees, with force 2 or 3 winds, mainly from the east. The stormy-looking nature of the pressure charts at present is more in keeping with mid-winter than April & there seems little prospect of anything better for the rest of the month.

Still cool & showery with NE winds. Much of the morning should be mainly dry, with perhaps some sunny intervals. During the afternoon & evening, showers will have developed across the region & there will generally be more cloudy skies. Some of the showers may affect Pitlochry & there could be hail or thunder in any heavy ones. Equally, as on Thursday & Saturday, we may escape the worst of what's going. Best temperatures up to around 10 & winds light or moderate from the NE. TONIGHT, many of the showers will die out, leaving clear spells & temperatures only a couple of degrees above freezing.

A low pressure system is centred over the English Channel. This will drift into the North Sea by tomorrow, only to be followed by another deep low into the SW. This leaves Scotland in cool NE winds & showery conditions in the week ahead.

Probably dry for the first couple of hours, but thereafter, there is again a shower risk. We may get very little, we may take a hit from a big shower & even sophisticated rainfall radar can't pinpoint, in advance, just who will catch what!. There will be some dry spells with sunny intervals, but temperatures will still be about 2 degrees down on the late April average.Winds light, mainly E or SE.

YESTERDAY IN PITLOCHRYWe had a surprisingly lucky day for missing showers, as once again, the region's radar chart was plastered with them. Still, as I always say, it's very much hit & miss with showers (misses on Thurs & Sat & a hit on Friday!)

A rather unsettled day yet again, with largely cloudy skies & just a few sunny intervals in the drier spells. There are already showers around & more will develop, some being long-lasting & heavy. It is very much hit & miss & really unpredictable, as to what degree Pitlochry is affected (Thursday & Friday being contrasting examples of this). It will still be on the cool side & winds will be mainly light from an E quarter. Any late showers should die out after dark to leave clear spells & locally a touch of ground frost.

YESTERDAY IN PITLOCHRYAnother day of sunny intervals & showers, but unlike on previous days, Pitlochry took a hit from a larger, heavier shower around 1500 to 1700 which gave over 9 mms of rain. Temperatures were again down on average.

An overnight rain belt is now nearly through & there will be some dry interludes, perhaps with a few sunny intervals. However, several lines of showers are expected to move across from the E & it seems inevitable that a few will affect Pitlochry, especially during the p.m. period. There should, however, be some dry intervals with a glimpse of the sun, though hail/thunder are possibilities should we be in the path ot the worst of the showers. YESTERDAY IN PITLOCHRYSome wet snow for a time at first. The afternoon saw a few sunny intervals, though it was fairly cloudy overall. There were some heavy showers around, especially further south in the early evening, but Pitlochry largely escaped. Our heaviest shower was one around 2230. Rather cool yet again.

YESTERDAY IN PITLOCHRYJust sunny intervals rather than any prolonged sunny spells. Around 14.30, I noticed a little soft hail in a series of slight showers. Very cool

A depression & its attendant fronts are moving towards Scotland & barometers across the country will start falling during today. There should be a significant fall of rain (perhaps some sleet) overnight & into tomorrow morning. Unsettled & cool in the further outlook.
TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRYIt's likely to be wet for some of the morning (snow on the highest ground). The more general rain should clear later in the morning leaving a few brighter intervals & perhaps a shower. Rather cold still, but as we are near the centre of the low, winds should be fairly light for the time being.

It should be a dry day, with only a small risk of a light shower during the afternoon. The morning should see a good deal of sunshine, though cloud is expected to be more in evidence this afternoon, while sunny intervals continue to occur. Maximum temperatures will still be 2 or 3 degrees down on mid-April average values. Winds will be mostly force 3 from the NW. TONIGHT should see long clear spells, with temperatures at or below freezing by dawn.

YESTERDAY IN PITLOCHRYIt still felt cold, out of any sunshine, but much of the day was dry. The best of the brightness came a.m. while part of the afternoon was rather cloudy. There were even a few slight showers. Temperatures fell quickly last evening.
