AN END OF YEAR MESSAGE
A WARM WELCOME TO PITLOCHRY WEATHER!
I believe Pilochry Weather (pitlochryweather.blogspot.com) has had a successful year. On an average day, around 50 or 60 loyal weather enthusiasts make a point of viewing the site. On days of extreme weather, this figure has risen to well in excess of 100 visitors & not all from the immediate area.
It has been most encouraging to see that on a Google Search for "Pitlochry Weather" or "Weather in Pitlochry", this site is listed ahead of either the BBC or Met Office & I believe these are the gold standard for forecasting! I hope & believe that living & observing in the town,as well as having access to old records, in some cases dating back to the 1950's, together with summaries, graphs & photographs, make the site worth regular visits.
Please feel free to contact me(thebigane@hotmail.com),if you have any questions or comments. Please ensure you give the topic as Pitlochry Weather.
All that remains now, is to wish you all a healthy, happy & successful New Year. There will be plenty of summaries on the way, Including about the record wet December,
Very best wishes Barry

GOOD MORNING & A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS.
FROM TODAY, WE WILL BE OPERATING FROM A NEW LAP-TOP COMPUTER.
UNFORTUNATELY, THERE IS A WEE TECHNICAL PROBLEM & BECAUSE IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, THE TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT IS HAVING A LIE-IN. FORTUNATELY THE OBSERVATION TEAM IS A 365 OPERATION, SO WE DO HAVE SOME READINGS FOR YOU.
IT CAN BE CONFIRMED THAT 2013 HAS OFFICIALLY HAD A WHITE CHRISTMAS, BASED ON HEAVY SLEET FALLING TO START OFF THE 24HR DAY (SO TECHNICALLY, THE PITLOCHRY BOOK-MAKERS HAVE TO PAY OUT ON THE 1- SNOWFLAKE- ONLY REQUIREMENT)
ANOTHER 19.8mms OF RAIN FELL IN THE PREVIOUS 24HRS, TAKING THE MONTH'S TOTAL (TO DATE ) UP TO 176MMS (AVERAGE 92MMS). UP TO THE 13TH, WE HAD ONLY HAD 34.2MMS. THE TUMMEL WILL BE AT A HIGH LEVEL
AGAIN, WE AVOIDED AN OVERNIGHT AIR FROST, SO TO DATE -1.4 IS THE COLDEST NIGHT OF DECEMBER (AN UNUSUALLY HIGH FIGURE FOR THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE).
NOT FOR THE FIRST TIME, OUR AREA HAS ESCAPED THE WORST OF THE GALES. A FEW DAYS AGO, PREDICTIONS WERE FOR 55MPH GUSTS LOCALLY ON CHRISTMAS EVE.
TODAY & BOXING DAY SHOULD BE REASONABLE DAYS, THOUGH RATHER COLD. FRIDAY IS LIKELY TO SEE ANOTHER DEEP DEPRESSION APPROACHING BRINGING MORE RAIN & STRONG WINDS.
HOPEFULLY, MORE LATER IF WE CAN SORT OUT OUR PROBLEMS!! BARRY
