Temperatures are higher than yesterday at this time, but a force 5 wind & a general cloud cover, may not convince readers that this is the case!  Despite the way things have started, we should see something of the sun again today & temperatures should still rise well-above average, maximum temperature around 17 or 18. THE GENERAL WEATHER PATTERN AROUND THE BRITISH ISLES
High pressure is now centred to the W of Ireland. This has allowed winds to blow over Britain from the NW & this situation is set to continue. Thursday & Friday should still see temperatures above normal, but the weekend promises to see temperatures more in the range of 11 to 14 at best.
TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRYStaying dry, though perhaps a cloudy start to the day. Some sunshine developing later. Temperatures still above normal at 17 or 18, with force 3 or 4 NW winds.

THE GENERAL WEATHER PATTERN AROUND THE BRITISH ISLES
An anticyclone continues to dominate Britain's weather & it is expected to remain dry for several days yet. However, the high pressure will gradually migrate further west & this will allow cooler air to invade from the NW.
TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRYAnother dry & sunny day. It will again start cold & misty, but afternoon temperatures should again be well above average & in the range 18 to 20 degrees.

RECORD MARCH WARMTH

At around 1600hrs this afternoon, the temperature in Pitlochry reached 20.9.
This is the warmest March day in 35yrs of Met Office records in the Pitlochry area.

In contrast, parts of the English South East Coast have been suffering from sea fog & at 1400hrs, the temperature at Shoeburyness (nr Southend) was just 6.4.

The average JULY day in Pitlochry is 19.2 so 1.7 COOLER than today.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY

Temperature at obs. time today 0900
5.5 degrees
It's a dry, bright promising start, though there is plenty of high & medium level cloud around just at present. There should be good spells of sunshine today, some of it a bit hazy, but nevertheless, temperatures should be considerably above the late March normal, reaching around 17 to 19 degrees. (The existing March record in the area over the past 35 years or so, is 17.6 degrees recorded in 2003). There is a good chance that this record could be broken over the next few days.  TONIGHT will see some clear spells & it will become misty & cold by dawn.

Tyndrum was 4.4 degrees higher than Leuchars, while parts of Dumfrieshire managed an exceptional 19 degrees.
THE GENERAL WEATHER PATTERN AROUND THE BRITISH ISLES
The high pressure near or over Britain will dominate the scene throughout next week, giving dry conditions. By Thursday, the high is likely to be to the west of the country & this may bring rather cooler NW winds
TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRYAny early mist & low cloud should quickly clear to give a mainly sunny day. Temperatures should reach around 18 or 19 degrees.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
A cloudy & chilly start, though there hasn't been a frost. Again the forecasting problem revolves round if & when the sun will break through. As mostly happens in this type of weather, the most sunshine & highest temperatures will be found further west, while the East Coast will fare the worst, as light breezes will be blowing from the E.   Pitlochry is likely to keep the cloud for a time this morning, but it should begin to break by late morning, with sunny spells this afternoon. Temperatures will range from 18 in the far west, through 13 in Pitlochry to 9 on the East Coast.  TONIGHT should be clear at first & quite chilly, but probably more cloudy later.   More dry, sunny, warm weather ahead!

YESTERDAY IN PITLOCHRYDisappointing! Cloudy & misty at first during the morning. Some cloud breaks, but little in the way of sunshine during the afternoon. For the first time in weeks, Tyndrum was actually milder than Leuchars, an indication that the air was drifting in off the cold North Sea.
THE GENERAL WEATHER PATTERN AROUND THE BRITISH ISLES
High pressure is dominating the scene & is likely to do so for several days yet. This means dry conditions continuing, sunny spells & quite warm for late March.
TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRYProbably cloud around first thing, but sunny spells should develop by mid-late morning. Temperatures should reach 16 or 17, as light winds turn more into the SW.

TODAY'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRY
There's been another frost overnight (Braemar was down to -5 ), so quite a chilly, cheerless start. Pitlochry has joined much of the Central Belt + East Coast with misty low cloud & it may well take some time for breaks to develop. Hopefully, things should start to brighten by afternoon & some sunny spells should then follow. For earlier sunshine & higher temperatures---go west (for most of the month, the opposite advice has applied!! ).  Winds will be light from the east & maximum temperatures will reach 12 to 14 (up to 16 or 17 further west.   TONIGHT will become cloudy & misty, but should be less cold.

YESTERDAY IN PITLOCHRYProlonged sunshine made the day just about as good as it gets in March. The maximum temperature, however, was far from the record-breaking category.
THE GENERAL WEATHER PATTERN AROUND THE BRITISH ISLES
High pressure still dominates, but with a drift of air from the North Sea, there are problems with misty low cloud. The dry weather is set to continue for several days yet.
TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRYAgain, the problem for the forecaster is chasing the extent & persistence of misty low cloud. Pitlochry may only see the sun later in the afternoon. Go west for sunnier, warmer weather & avoid the East Coast.

THE GENERAL WEATHER PATTERN AROUND THE BRITISH ISLES
Pressure is high over the North Sea & low over Mid-Atlantic. A weak front is affecting SW England & this will travel NE-wards to help give more cloud to ourselves tomorrow.
TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRYA cloudier & much cooler day, as a front passes through & SE winds bring chilly air off the North Sea.

YESTERDAY IN PITLOCHRY
Quite a lot of yesterday remained largely cloudy, but the sun did put in a few appearances during the afternoon. The NE of Scotland was yet again favoured, with Fyvie Castle making 16.4 degrees. What a superb March Aberdeenshire has had this year!!
THE GENERAL WEATHER PATTERN AROUND THE BRITISH ISLES
High pressure is sitting over the near continent, but dominating the weather over most of Britain. From tomorrow, the high will be positioned further north, which will turn the winds more into the SE---not good for the East Coast or places not too far away from it.
TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR PITLOCHRYDry with sunny spells, but an increasing risk of sea fog along the East Coast & low cloud may spread to Pitlochry overnight.

YESTERDAY IN PITLOCHRYSome"welcome " rain overnight & mainly during the morning, but a slow-moving front led to cloud hanging around for much of the time. A WARM WELCOME TO PITLOCHRY WEATHER!

THERE'S NOT BEEN MUCH RAIN AROUND!

With 20,000,000 people facing a hosepipe ban in much of Southern & Eastern England-----perhaps it's just about worth mentioning that since the last week of January, PITLOCHRY has only received 36mms of rain (normal, should be more like 140mms).

BUT---we should get some more during the night & tomorrow!
