HEADLINES @ 1630Hrs
A cloudy, breezy day, with virtually no sunshine. On the credit side, there's been very little rain & the thermometer has reached a very mild 15.1.    At 1300Hrs, Kinloss on the Moray Firth reached 19, a respectable figure for July (caused by moist S. winds descending from off the Cairngorms )

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
A band of rain will move across later this evening, clearing later in the night. In the clearer conditions behind the front, temperatures are expected to fall to a low of 6 or 7.

TUESDAY
A rather fresher day, with broken cloud & some sunshine. Maximum temperature around 11 or 12.   A good day for a visit to the East Coast, which should get the lion's share of the sunshine.

The mild theme continues & I'm sure I will be reporting a warmer than normal October in the month's summary out tomorrow.  If you feel like some sunshine & temperatures up to 18 today, why not try the southern shores of the Moray Firth, from Inverness to Elgin? ----a particularly favoured area in today's conditions.

PITLOCHRY TODAY
Often rather cloudy, with a little rain on occasions, but there should also be some drier, brighter spells too. Very mild, with a moderate to fresh southerly breeze & a maximum temperature of 15--well above average.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Some rain spreading from the west, but clearing before dawn. Minimum temperature falling in the clearer conditions following the rain, to around 6.

TUESDAY
Looks like a dry day, with some sunshine, though feeling fresher. Particularly nice on the East Coast.

HEADLINES @ 1900Hrs
Dry all day, but rather disappointing with regard to sunshine amounts. The maximum temperature was 11.3.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
There may be small amounts of rain during the next hour or so, otherwise the main rain area is expected to arrive late evening, continuing on & off for much of the night. Areas further west will get the largest totals. Temperatures should hold up at about 8. The breeze will pick up as the evening goes on.

WEEKEND
Reasonably mild for late October, with winds from S or SW. Rather a lot of cloud for much of the time, with very limited brightness. Rain never too far away, though Sunday morning may stay mainly dry. The wettest weather always in the west, drier to the east & south-east of Pitlochry.

A rather cold start, following a ground frost. However, this site has not yet had an air frost in October & prospects now of getting one are virtually nil.  Looking good for today, so make the best of it, as weekend prospects point to unsettled conditions with rain never too far away (& often right on the doorstep ).  Check the RAIN TODAY link.

PITLOCHRY TODAY
A dry day in prospect, with broken cloud & sunshine at times. Probably more high cloud around by evening, as well as some increase in the SW breeze. Maximum temperature 11.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Cloud increasing, with rain setting in later in the evening & persisting for much of the night, keeping temperatures up at about 9.

WEEKEND
SATURDAY---Cloudy & mild with rain at times. Temperatures up to 13.   SUNDAY---After a dry start, further rain seems likely to spread in later. Remaining mild & breezy.  Always more rain further west.

HEADLINES @ 1830Hrs
Rather cloudy, with a few nuisance-value showers this morning. This afternoon saw cloud thinning, lifting & breaking to give some pleasant sunny intervals. There was a rewarding vista at Queen's View this afternoon, with very good visibility & the trees looked beautiful in their Autumn colourings. Today's highest temperature was 11.2

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Just the chance of a light evening shower, but that apart, it should be dry throughout, with some clear spells. It is likely to be quite chilly by dawn, with air temperatures down to about 3 or 4 with local ground frost & mist bands in the valley bottoms & slopes.

FRIDAY
Dry & bright with some sunshine, though starting cold. Highest temperature around 11.

Cloudy at present & a few spits in the wind. Not just as cold as yesterday at this time. We haven't actually had an air frost yet, which is unusual for this stage in October.

PITLOCHRY TODAY
Broken cloud, with sunny intervals, but more cloudy spells also likely when there could be the odd shower. A moderate breeze from the south & highest temperature around 12.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Any showers dying out to give dry conditions with breaks in the cloud. It is likely to be a rather cold night, with minimum temperature around 4, with perhaps a slight ground frost & valley mist patches & hillside cloud bands.

FRIDAY
A dry, bright day, with a fresh southerly breeze & highest temperature close to 11.

HEADLINES @ 1815Hrs
It was a cloudy start when I left Pitlochry, but south of Dunkeld, broken skies & bright sunshine took over. Auchterarder & Dunblane were fine & sunny, but by Callander, cloud had begun to increase. The Trossachs were rather cloudy, but with a few light showers around.  The journey home via Lochearnhead, Killin & Aberfeldy, saw rather cloudy skies, with a few well-scattered light showers.  Pitlochry rainfall up to 1815 was 0.3mms, while the maximum temperature was 12.8.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Still a few showers around the area, but likely dying out later on, with some clear spells overnight. Lowest temperature around 4 or 5. Possibly a ground frost & some mist bands around valley bottoms & sides by morning.

THURSDAY
Not a bad day, with broken cloud & sunny intervals. Perhaps the odd shower around the area. Top temperatures close to 12.

A colder start than for some days. There has also been a little rain from showers earlier on. The month's rainfall total to date is gradually approaching near-normal levels. Worth checking the RAIN TODAY  link,  because the theme is scattered sharpish showers for today.  (I'm taking my chances in the Trossachs---umbrella at the ready! )

PITLOCHRY TODAY
At least some breaks in the cloud today, with even a few sunny intervals.  It should be dry for a lot of the time, but one or two possibly sharp showers are also expected. Maximum temperatures around 11 or 12, with light to moderate S or SW breezes.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Partly cloudy, with perhaps the odd shower still around at first.  Dry for much of the time, with some clear spells likely, which will allow temperatures to fall to around 4 or 5.

THURSDAY
Partly cloudy, with only a little sunshine expected. Quite a risk of getting several showers, though as ever in these situations, a few spots may be lucky & miss most of them.

HEADLINES @ 1900Hrs
Much less rain than originally expected in our area today. There were only 3.1mms, all of this fairly early in the morning.   I was amazed to see BBC 1 (SCOTLAND ) still predicting a wet afternoon over our area on their 1330H broadcast, when it had already been dry for over 2 hours.   Top temperature today was 12.5.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
A dry period, with some breaking of the cloud sheet with time. Rather colder than recent nights, with the lowest value down to around 6 or 7.

WEDNESDAY
It should be a much more cheerful day, weatherwise, with broken cloud, some sunny intervals, mostly dry, but just the chance of an odd shower. Top temperatures should be around 11.

PITLOCHRY TODAY
Overcast throughout, with some spells of moderate& occasionally heavy rain, especially this morning. The rain should become less persistent & lighter during the afternoon, with the odd drier spell. Breezy from the S.E.with a top temperature of 12.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Becoming mainly dry, with some breaks in the cloud sheet overnight. A lower minimum temperature than recently, down to about 6, with winds moderating.

WEDNESDAY
Some dry, bright weather around for a pleasant change. Winds lighter, with highest temperature around 12.

It remained cloudy throughout, but all the rain that fell, (only 2.4mms), was confined to the morning. The top temperature was 11.9 degrees, still a little above the late October average.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Much of this period will remain cloudy, breezy & mild, with the minimum no lower than about 9. Late in the night, there are likely to be some outbreaks of rain, the start of quite a wet spell.

TUESDAY
Overcast & windy, with periods of rain, as a very slow-moving front hangs about over our area for much of the day. The Met Office expects some of this rain to be heavy & persistent, giving significant totals.

A wet start, but that shouldn't last long.  Having said that, it would appear that a few parts of Britain may get as much as 100mms of rain today (Cornwall, Pembroke & parts of N. Ireland ).  We are set to land a fair amount of rain ourselves tomorrow.

PITLOCHRY TODAY
Some early rain, then becoming dry, with some cloud breaks, though still often rather cloudy. Breezy, but temperatures above normal at around 14.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Dry for most of the period, but another band of rain spreading into the area from the south late in the night. Remaining breezy, but the night will be very mild for the time of year.

TUESDAT
An unsettled day, with some rather heavy & persistent rain likely. Maximum temperature down a bit on today's at 11 or 12.

Morning was the better part of the day. During the afternoon, cloud lowered with some outbreaks of rain, especially around 1700 to 1800Hrs. The actual total of rain wasn't great, however--1.8mms from 0900H to 1830H.  Today's top temperature was 12.0.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Perhaps a little more rain to come at first this evening, though this shouldn't amount to much.  Most of the night will be mainly dry & cloudy & it will stay mild (lowest temp. about 9. )

MONDAY
A good start to the working week, with dry weather, broken cloud & some sunny intervals. A brisk S.E. breeze is expected & highest temperatures should reach 13.

A pleasant start to the day. Much of Britain is in for a mild day & London should make 19. There will, however, be some rain around, with the largest falls in Western Scotland. Pitlochry may escape with relatively little, but it's a tricky call on this one!

PITLOCHRY TODAY
The morning will start bright & dry. However, cloud will tend to increase from the south, followed by some rain during the afternoon, though most of this should be light. It will again be mild, with maximum temperature approaching 13 degrees. Becoming breezy.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Any remaining rain should die out during the first part of the evening & the rest of the time should be dry. It will continue mild & breezy, with a minimum of 9.

MONDAY
A good start to the new working week, with a mainly dry, bright day ahead. It is still expected to be mild & breezy, top temperature around 12.

A good example again today of an east/west divide (with Pitlochry in the middle ).  Very little in the way of rain here, but persistently cloudy or overcast, with always spits of drizzle in the air & rather more than that early afternoon. Staying mild, however, at 11.8 maximum.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Rather more in the way of rain spreading in this evening & only clearing later in the night.  Minimum temperature about 8.

SUNDAY
Starting dry tomorrow, but with a spell of rain from early afternoon until mid-evening.  Mild again, with a high of around 13.

Yesterday, Lossiemouth was the warmest place in the U.K. at 17.  Remember the comments yesterday about more rain to be found further west, well Tyndrum received 28mms (2100H to 2100H ). There is likely to be a similar theme today: for the most low cloud & highest rainfall totals--go west. For a chance of brighter skies & the least rain, go east & south east.

PITLOCHRY TODAY
Much of the morning should just about stay dry, but it will be mostly rather cloudy. Around lunchtime, another area of rain is due to arrive from the s.w.probably lasting on & off for the rest of the day. Much of the rain should be light, just occasionally moderate, but the cloud base is likely to lower to cover the hills. It will be breezy, but mild, at around 12.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Rain continuing for some hours, but dying out during the night. Minimum temperature 9.

SUNDAY
A dry, bright morning, though possibly some further rain as the afternoon goes on. Staying mild.

HEADLINES @ 1700Hrs
On the positive side, it has been a very mild day for the time of year, maximum temperature 13.3.  However, the morning, especially, was overcast with persistent light rain & drizzle. Some improvement has been in evidence this afternnon. The rainfall total 0900h to 1700H was 1.8mms. (It does not take a lot of rain to make a day miserable! )

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Skies remaining cloudy. There is expected to be another spell of light rain or drizzle during this evening, though probably very little overnight.  Staying mild, with lows of around 10.

WEEKEND
Saturday is likely to stay mainly cloudy & at times overcast. There are likely to be some spells of rain & drizzle, mostly light, but there may also be some drier periods too. It will again be mild.
Sunday should start dry, but rain will spread from the south later. Becoming windy.

HEADLINES @ 0900Hrs
A lot of rain in the west today. Very little rain close to the East Coast. A set- up that tells us winds are in the west & frontal systems are near at hand.  Don't get carried away by the odd patch of blue sky at present!

PITLOCHRY TODAY
Mainly cloudy throughout. There will be rain from time to time, though most of it will be light & patchy. There may be some dry spells too. It will be mild & breezy, with highest temperatures close to 12.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Mild & breezy, with perhaps an occasional patch of light rain or drizzle. Lowest temperature close to a very mild 10.

WEEKEND
The emphasis on unsettled conditions.  On the positive side, it will be mild, but it will often be cloudy, with rain never too far away. Winds will generally be on the brisk side, from between S & SW.

HEADLINES @ 1845Hrs
A cold, but dry, bright morning went downhill during the afternoon, with the approach of fronts from the Atlantic.  Today's highest temperature was 8, while 1.9mms of rain fell up to 1845Hrs.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
A cloudy night throughout, with mainly light rain, though with a few patches of moderate rain on occasions.  The temperature at 0900Hrs this morning,  (1.5), will statistically prove to be the 24Hr minimum temperature for the 21st, but in reality, the night ahead will be relatively mild.

FRIDAY
Pitlochry, as is not uncommon, will be on the border of an east/ west split tomorrow.  Travel into the mountainous areas further west & you are likely to find low cloud & long spells of moderate & sometimes heavy rain.  Travel east or south east & any rain is likely to be mainly light & patchy, with perhaps some dry & brighter spells.  Pitlochry is likely to be mainly cloudy, with spells of rain, mostly light or moderate in intensity. It should, however, be milder than today at around 11.

HEADLINES @ 0900Hrs
Coldest night to date in October, but thought it would have been colder (saved by rather more cloud hanging around ).

PITLOCHRY TODAY
A dry bright & nippy start. During the day, pressure will start to fall, southerly winds increase, cloud will begin to inccrease & by mid-afternoon, mainly light rain is likely to spread in. Temperatures are likely to struggle to reach about 7 or 8.
THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Much milder than the night just gone, but it will remain cloudy, with occasional, mainly light rain throughout. Minimum temperatures holding up at about 5. (When readings are made this morning, the minimum pin, when  reset, will  be lower than this value(,in fact 1.5) . It will then stay at that until readings are made again tomorrow morning, even though tonight's lowest temperature will not go down so low. Just one of those things about 24Hr observations---the normal with climate stations.
FRIDAY
A much milder & breezy day, with spells of rain, often light, occasionally moderate. A very wet day further west, much lower rainfall totals to the east & south east.

Just a few snow showers survived their passage over the Cairngorms & Grampians to reach Pitlochry as rain showers. At least it was dry for much of the time. The highest temperature only made 8.5, over 3 degrees below the seasonal norm.  Tonight promises to be cold, with lighter breezes, coupled with clear spells, allowing escape of heat into the atmosphere
You could be on car-scraping in the morning!

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
There could be an odd shower around at first this evening, but for the most part, it will remain clear with temperatures falling quickly. Minimum values close to zero & lower in frost prone sites. Some ground temperatures may approach -5

THURSDAY
A mainly dry day, though cloud tending to increase somewhat. There may be a little rain late in the day. Temperatures still below normal at around 8 or 9.

HEADLINES @ 0900Hrs
Still just a touch of snow on Ben Vrackie.  There were further snow showers over the Grampians overnight. Tonight is likely to see the lowest temperature of the present cold snap.

PITLOCHRY TODAY
Much less in the way of cloudy, showery activity today & much more in the way of dry weather, broken cloud & some sunshine. So only a small chance of a shower. Not quite as windy as yesterday, but probably a degree or so colder with 8 as a maximum.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Some sunshine at first this evening, followed by a night with some clear spells. A few prone spots may get down to a negative air temperature, with most places having a ground frost

THURSDAY
A cold, bright start, but it is expected to cloud over later in the day to bring some rain overnight. Temperatures during the day will only rise slowly to about 8, though the night will be less cold than recent ones.

For longer outlook periods, surface pressure charts, mountain weather & severe weather warnings, go to the Met Office's regional forecasts and click the relevant headings.

HEADLINES @ 1645Hrs
Some patches of snow have survived all day on Ben Vrackie, while rainfall radar has confirmed that much of the highest ground has continued to have snow showers.   Pitlochry had several showers in the early part of the morning, but since then, these have been much more scattered (rainfall only 1.2mms since 0900Hrs ).  It's been windy, up to about force 6, though the sunshine helped push the maximum temperature to 10.0.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
There will still be the odd shower around this evening, but later, skies should be much more broken, with the weather mainly dry. In valley bottom locations, sheltered from the wind, minimum temperatures may just go into negative territory. Ground frost is likely to be more widespread.

WEDNESDAY
Probably more emphasis on broken cloud & some sunshine, with fewer showers around. A little less windy & maximum temperatures close to 8 or 9 degrees.

Snow cover on Ben Vrackie this morning. There were quite a few showers around the 0600-0730 period, adding to the rainfall total attributed to yesterday. Snow showers have been widespread over the highest ground to both north & west.  The best of today's dry & sunny weather will be to the east & south east. More cloudy & showery weather is expected, especially over the mountainous areas further west.

PITLOCHRY TODAY
A cold, windy day, with a mixture of broken cloud & sunny intervals, punctuated with a few showers. During the early morning period, the showers have been frequent & heavy, but should become more scattered through the day, allowing for some dry bright spells. Winds will be fresh from the NW & highest temperatures will struggle to double figures.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Still the odd shower possible, but also some clear spells, with a touch of frost on the cards. Minimum 0.

WEDNESDAY
Remaining cold & breezy. Some broken skies with sunshine, but always the chance of the odd shower getting through from the west.  Maximum temperature around 8.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
It's alread down to 3.5 degrees, so a cold night is in prospect. Cloud should start to break up somewhat during the evening with some dry spells, but showers are also likely (of snow on higher ground). Minimum temperatures down to 2 or 3, with a touch of ground frost

TUESDAY
A cold, windy day with temperatures struggling to reach double figures. Cloud will be broken, with a few sunny intervals, but there are also likely to be some squally showers around.   For fewer showers & more sunshine---head east, for cloudier skies & more frequent showers head west. The odd shower around at first & later in the evening & overnight, some more general rain will spread from the west. Becoming windy, with overnight minimum temperature down to around 6.

MONDAY
A rather cold & very unsettled day, with any early brightness quickly disappearing. There is likely to be some heavy rainfall at times. HEADLINES @ 1745Hrs
Decidedly dreich today, even lights on during the daytime.  To rub salt in the wounds, many parts of England & Wales had a generous supply of blue skies & sunshine.   Parts of Northern Scotland did very well yesterday. The meteorologically famous village of Altnaharra (between Lairg & Tongue) topped the U.K-wide list for maximum temperature (19 degrees--about double its normal.)  Altnaharra was once both the warmest & coldest place in the U.K. on a single day--a very rare occurrence.   So no sun today, but as yet, very little rain. Max. temp. 13.2.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
A cold front will cross the area about midnight. Ahead of this, there will be a spell of rain (mostly lightish, just a few moderate outbreaks).  No more double figure minima for a while, about 8 tonight, but some ground frosts lined up for next week.

SUNDAY
A much better day than the last few. Cloud should be broken allowing some sunshine on occasions. There may just be an odd passing shower. It will be a little breezier & fresher

Some occasional, mainly light rain during the early evening. Further rain is likely later in the night, as a warm front moves through. Staying very mild, with temperatures staying in double figures.

WEEKEND
Sunday the better day, with some dry bright weather, though not as mild as today. Saturday looks like being mostly cloudy, with some rain on occasions, more so during the afternoon. There should be some dry spells during the morning.

Very low cloud around, but it is actually quite thin & I've already seen a patch of blue sky.    If there's one thing worse than having poor weather, it is in knowing that most other areas will be having better!  Unfortunately, that summarizes today. But at least it feels mild & very little is expected in the way of rain, just not very much in the way of sunshine.

PITLOCHRY TODAY
Generally cloudy througout. At best, just a few brighter intervals.  Just a chance of the odd patch of drizzle. It will be mild mowever, with maximum temperature reaching close to 15.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT

The morning began overcast with drizzle, but later it became dry. The afternoon remained cloudy but dry.  On occasions, a cloud band persisted below the summit of Ben Vrackie, leaving the top in the clear.  Days of persistent cloud, despite pressure being high, are said--(in the trade)--to be experiencing "anticyclonic gloom"   Despite all the cloud, it was actually a little milder with a top temperature of 12.0.  Barometers should be reading around 1027 to 1028 mbs.this evening.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
Remaining cloudy, though dry for the most part. There could be a few patches of drizzle on occasions, not amounting to much. Lowest temperatures will fall to around 9.

FRIDAY
Staying mainly cloudy, with any brighter intervals reserved for places further east. There are likely to be some patches of light rain or drizzle on occasions, but dry spells too. Highest temperatures reaching 14, mild for the time of year.

Overcast, with low cloud on the hills & some drizzle at present. High barometers do NOT always guarantee dry, sunny weather! Hopefully, this will be the worst part of today.

PITLOCHRY TODAY
A mainly cloudy but essentially dry day.   It is likely that there will be a little sporadic light rain or drizzle, especially at first,  but not amounting to much.  Conversely, there may be a few spells of brighter weather with small cloud breaks, especially this afternoon. A little milder than yesterday with a high of 12 or 13. Light winds, mainly from E or SE.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
A mild night, with a continuing possibility of patchy slight rain or drizzle on occasions. That apart, it should be essentially cloudy & dry.

FRIDAY
More breeze & milder than on recent days, up to about 14. Still a fair amount of cloud around, with perhaps just a few patches of more broken cloud & brightness. Equally, a few patches of slight rain are also possible.

THIS EVENING & TONIGHT
It will continue cloudy, but dry for much of the time. A little patchy slight rain or drizzle is just possible. Winds will be light, barometers should be reading around 1022mbs & minimum temperatures will be higher than last night at around 6 degrees.

THURSDAY
Dry for the most part, with partly cloudy skies. There may well be some thinning & breaking of the cloud at times giving some bright or sunny intervals. It should be a little less cold than today, with temperatures reaching 13.
